Should have known.......

Well, even if we aren't exposed, it seems like we get sick if the rest of the family gets sick. Glenn got sick on Wednesday and slowly progressed to full blown sick on Saturday. He stayed in bed all day on Saturday. That was the day that I stayed at the hospital with Brady and family. Glenn was feeling some better on Sunday and Monday. But on Monday I came down with, I guess the flu, we called the doctor and they wanted me to come in before they would give us any medicine but I did not feel like riding to go in so I took theraflu and hoped for the best. It is Tuesday afternoon and I'm feeling lots better. As of right now, I am planning on going to work tomorrow. Glenn has gone back to bed, he is aching all over like I was on Monday, so I am afraid he has relapsed. Talked to Tim today and Christy now has what the boys had last week. I hope she feels better today. We missed Sunday lunch, it has already made for a long week. Hopefully we will get back to normal this week. Hope everyone is having a better week than us!

Vacation!

I know that if you got to go on vacation every other week you would probably get tired but I absolutely love vacations. I love the packing (not the unpacking, so Glenn usually unpacks), buying snacks, and getting in the car and getting ready to go. I love the freedom of not having anything to have to do and nowhere to have to go to. We had a great time in Mississippi (the drive is long). But our room was great and the king jacuzzi could have fit 4 people in it easy. We met Jaime, Jay and kids, Shannon, Richard and kids in Memphis and ate at Central Barbecue. It always helps to have good looking girls with you, the manager ended up giving us free drinks! While we were gone, Brady and family all had the stomach virus. Brady ended up in the hospital on Friday for his stomach virus but he is going home this afternoon. All better! Grayson had the flu on Monday and then Hudson got the flu on Thursday so their family has been fighting the flu all week. Bomp has had a stomach virus also this week. This was definitely the week for us to leave town but didn't help much because Glenn has come down with some type of bad cold. No lunch gathering for us Sunday. We all need to get well. Don't even want to think about work yet for next week. We have a lot of birthdays coming up. We have a wedding in April. Lots of things happening in the next few months.

I have People!!!

Shannon and I had planned to go shopping Saturday morning but on Friday night Shan called and said Katie didn't feel good so she was probably not going to get to go. Allie called and told me that she & Brady were going to meet me over there so when I told Glenn on Saturday morning that I was driving by myself over there, he decided that he might go. While getting ready to go, Shannon called and said Katie was feeling better and that she was getting to go. While I was talking on the phone, Glenn said that he wasn't going to go since I had "people" going, Shannon heard him & said "did he just call us People?" We got to laughing about me having people. So, me and my "peeps" went shopping. It was a race against time, Collin had a basketball game at noon that we had to get back to see. Sometimes, I am just amazed at what all I have, husband who loves me, kids who love me, grand kids who loves me and "people". What a life I lead!!!!

Saturday & Sunday

Glenn & I drove around on Saturday afternoon. We love to just ride the roads and take a picnic meal & eat & drive. Weird, but we like it. In the area that we rode to this day, you would never guess what we saw. Reindeer, or deer that looked just like reindeer! After telling the kids, the first thing Jay said was "Did you see Santa Claus?" Good question, now I wish I had looked a little harder, but the answer was no. We marvel at the world that God created. Some of the area we drive in looks like time has stopped and no one has been around in years. Then we turn a corner and there is new construction, very strange. We had a great Sunday, lotsa of family and good food. Another birthday celebrated. I would tell you how old Welton is but I'm not sure that he doesn't read this blog! Brady starts with Mzz Terry tomorrow. There is no one that I can think of that I trust more than this lady. When Allie was just 4, her and her best friend Rebeka loved the New Kids on the Block. When Terry's husband Kevan said he was taking Rebeka and asked if he could take Allie, I said yes. There are not many people that I would have allowed to take my 4 year old with them to Houston. Poor Kevan, Allie stayed awake until the New Kids on the Block came out and then she slept in his lap the entire time. What a man! Terry will have fun with Brady, he is a sweetheart, even if I am his grandma. Grayson, Hudson, Collin & Katie had the best time in the shop today. We even loaded them up and let them see Grandpa saw down the last tree that needed to be cut in the pasture. No fighting, no fussing, just pure enjoyment of family time. What a picture perfect Sunday. Ryan and his new to be family came and it just made everything perfect. Shannon & Richard got to go to the show for the afternoon while the kids stayed with us. I know they enjoyed the time away. Back to work tomorrow, but knowing that Sunday will come again makes it worth it.

Brady called last night to talk to Grandma & Grandpa. It's hard to believe that he is old enough to start saying words that we can understand. Grandpa actually comes out to sound like Grandpa but I'm ga ga. Go figure, but it sounds adorable. I forgot to put a note about the pine trees last week. I drove Grayson & Hudson down to see the big tree that we cut down last Sunday. I told them look at the big tree that Grandpa & I cut down. Grayson (3 1/2) turned to me and said, "did you cut with the saw 1/2 the time and Grandpa cut with the other 1/2". I had to say no, I guess Grandpa really cut down the tree, not me. He definitely wanted the award to go to the person who actually cut the tree and he knew it was not me. Oh well, I guess he will keep me honest. Hudson can hurt anything on his body and decide everything is fine, unless he hurts his thumb. That is tragic, he is a thumb sucker and he worries something will happen to that thumb. He's so cute about it. Sometimes I look at all the big kids and think about them growing up. How did they get so pretty, handsome and smart and marry all the right people! We love everyone they chose. I will not stress, I will not stress, I will not stress. There I have said it 3 times and 3 times is a charm. Work has been stressful but I am determined for it not to take over my life. Glenn & I have been doing Turbo Jam for the past week. It does make me feel better and hopefully I can lose some weight. It would probably help if I didn't play on this laptop all the time but I am sure it will get old before long. Sunday is coming up again, my day to look forward to. I have been reading people's post on facebook. These are kids that used to come and play at my house. I miss that I have not seen some of them and their kids since they have been grown. They used to stay at our house when the kids were growing up. I am counting down the days, my oldest grandchild will be 16 before I turn around. We need to have a big blow out on that day! Time to wake Glenn up! Have a great day today and think positive!

Trees and Chain Saws

Well, we have decided to plant more of our pastures in pine trees. To be able to do this, some of the big trees have to be cut. Glenn has been cutting most of them during the week, that way all I see is the result (which is trees laying on the ground). But this past Saturday, he decided he was going to cut the biggest tree while I was there. I cleaned our house until I thought all was clear but when I finished, the tree was still standing so out I went to help. This was the biggest tree that Glenn has ever cut. It had a huge trunk. He started by cutting his wedge in the front of the tree. The tree was so big, it dulled his saw about half way through and he had to stop to sharpen his saw two or three times. Once the wedge was cut, he moved to the back of the tree to cut around there. Nothing, the tree did not move, no sway, no nothing. Then he decided to use the tractor and give the tree a push. Imagine this, Glenn on the tractor up against this huge tree and pusing it with the tractor. The tree would go the way he would push but when he let off, it would sway back to him! Nerve wracking to say the least. That was not working so off he went to the store to buy a long rope. When he got back, he put a ladder against this huge tree (that is cut all the way around) then he climbed on it to throw the rope over the limb. While he was on the ladder, the wind picked up, you should have seen that tree sway. At one point, I had to yell at him to come off the ladder, I really thought the tree was coming down. But no, it stood there just as straight as ever. He got the rope around the limb and pulled the truck in front of the tree and then tied the rope on the truck. I was standing back (as far back as I could and still be in yelling distance) but it really looked if the tree fell it would fall right on the truck! Glenn started off in the truck and pulled the rope tight and the tree started towards him but still did not fall. At this point, he decided that he would need to cut some on the back of the tree but I would need to get into the truck (the truck that is in front of this tree that is cut) and when he yelled, I would need to pull forward slowly (are you kidding me). As I whined and whined while going towards this tree that if the tree fell on the truck and killed me, he would not be happy. Well into the truck I went after walking so slowly towards it, he thought that I would never make it. But lo and behold, after cutting just a short cut, the tree cracked and started down. With a huge boom, it was finally on the ground, after only 6 hours. Me, the truck and Glenn are all intact, no harm done. I think there is one more tree to cut and as soon as I hear which day he's cutting, I will have plans. Glenn and I went down this week and took a picture of the tree with Collin & Katie.

What happened!

How did I get to this age? I remember thinking that anyone in their fifties was old. I really don't think that anymore. I think now, wow, people in their fifties don't look as old as they did when I was in my twenties. It really seems as if it was just a few years that we were raising kids and going to dance recitals, baseball games, cheer leading camps, football games, tennis matches, etc. Of course, now we are going to baseball games, basketball games, choir programs, award ceremonies at schools but it is now for grand kids. I remember going to eat with my oldest grandchild when she was in kindergarten and now she is in high school. I feel like that I am going to turn around and she will have kids of her own. Where does time fly? I hope that I am taking time to live to the fullest. I find it hard to tell when you are actually in the moment. I can only tell when I look back. I realize now and I hope I have told my kids enough that they understand, the choices you make when you are young will affect your entire life. There is not much that I regret in life, one of them was not going to college. I realize people say that I could go now but I really don't want to at this point. But I look back and know that I would have had more choices in the job situation if I would have gone to college. You always want more for your kids and grand kids than you had for yourself. Of course, I want them to have no regrets but life isn't like that. It's hard to make those choices living in the moment. Hindsight is always better. One of my co-workers is retiring and it is changing things in our office but I want to keep a positive attitude towards this change. Maybe I really don't like change after all. On lighter notes, you should see Buster (our new puppy) he loves Glenn. When Glenn is outside, Buster is right next to him. Glenn was painting on the porch this week and Buster has paint on him from where he got up against the paint can. Glenn has been cutting trees this week in our back pasture getting ready to plant more pine trees. Like I tell all the grand kids, be careful of the pine trees, this could be your hummer one day. Well, work is calling and I need to get ready. Hope everyone has a great day! Oh by the way, we are having a birthday part for Glenn's mom Sunday, she is in her eighties but doesn't look it or act it! We should have a lot of fun with her on Sunday.
